15 Dec Sparkly Words

Over the weekend, Emma wrote a note to her most favorite friend on sparkly, pink paper. She let me read it before she sealed the envelope. The note read:
Dear Audrey,
You are my very best friend.
Your best friend,
Emma
Emma proudly took the letter to school. After school, I asked her what Audrey thought of the letter. Emma said she knew Audrey loved it because she saw her slipping the note out of her backpack several times in the day to re-read it and noticed that Audrey smiled every time she read it.
The next day, Emma came home with a note written in purple, sparkly ink:
Dear Emma,
You are my very best friend too.
Your best friend,
Audrey
Emma said it was the best letter she ever received. She has it on her nightstand and re-reads it before she falls asleep. I see her smile lingering as she puts it back in the envelope and shuts her eyes.
It is nice when we tell people they matter, and it’s nice when the positivity reciprocates and the person tells us we matter, too. Sharing the positive things we value and prize in others – even if it seems like we are merely stating the obvious – is uplifting and strengthens our connections to each other.
Just like it did for Audrey and Emma, these sparkly words bring us smiles that linger between the things we do and give us happy feelings as we drift off to sleep.
