A Little Way

A Little Way

After a full day of hard rain on Christmas Eve, a misty fog rolled in on Christmas Day. As we began to drive home from my parents’ house after dinner, the girls noticed how difficult it was to see the road ahead. The normal, familiar landmarks were blurred. The world appeared invisible other than the glow of headlights and street lamps.

Emma wondered if perhaps we should pull over and sleep in the car until the sun came up. Ella retorted that the three-mile drive would probably be okay, but we should just go really slow.

“We only need to see a little way in front of us,” I said. We drove slowly, our lights helping us see the bit of road ahead. We made the whole drive that way.

It’s all we need. Especially when things are dark. To see a little way in front of us. We can make the whole journey that way.
