24 Aug Maybe we are…
There were 37 tabs open on my web browser. My computer was not happy about this. I knew this because a notification popped up, warning me that some of the webpages were using too much memory and suggesting that I close some tabs.
I don’t know about you, but I tend to keep tabs open as reminders. Among my collection of 37 tabs were a delicious sounding recipe for vanilla cupcakes, a list of the year’s best works of fiction, an article on leadership I intended to reference in an upcoming presentation, a compilation of brain teasers I had used in lunch notes to my daughters, and some fancy shoes that I was trying to justify purchasing.
However, I didn’t want the computer to crash, so I began reviewing the tabs one by one—closing the unnecessary ones and bookmarking the ones I thought I might revisit later.
As I worked through the tabs, I stumbled upon one that was a half-completed Google search. Beneath the bright colors of Google’s logo was a search bar where I had typed the words “Maybe we are”.
Vague memories of typing this, days or perhaps weeks ago, flickered in my mind.
I believe Ella was asking me about song lyrics or maybe the title of a book.
Yet, as so often happens, I had started this search only to get sidetracked by something else.
I clicked beside the text, hoping to trigger a recollection of my original intent.
Below the search box, Google offered suggestions of where I might have been going with my search. These autocomplete predictions are based on the most popular search queries related to the words you enter and are designed to make it faster to complete searches as you begin to type.
My eyes scanned the list:
Maybe we are more similar than we think
Maybe we are the lucky ones
Maybe we are all diamonds
Maybe we are from the same star
Maybe we are falling down
Maybe we are supposed to try again
Reading through it, I realized it sounded a bit like a poem.
So many “maybes,” with countless more beyond these suggested.
What a delightful thought this is—endless potential for what we may be.
What do you think? How would you complete the missing part?
Maybe we are _______________.
