26 Dec A Simple Wish for the Year’s End
As the year winds down, I’ve found myself leaning into a simple practice: offering one-word wishes. It starts with a pause—a quiet moment to think of someone, anyone, and send them a silent word: strength, hope, ease, joy, courage, rest.
Nothing more, just a single word, offered silently.
Maybe it’s a friend you haven’t seen in a while, someone you love, or even a stranger. Just hold the person in your thoughts for a moment and offer a word that feels right.
What I love about this practice is how small it is, yet how much it carries. Research suggests that even silent acts of kindness—like wishing someone well—can reduce stress, create a sense of connection, and increase feelings of compassion. It’s as if sending kindness out into the world gently returns it to our own hearts.
What word might you offer to someone today? And, just as importantly, what word would you offer to yourself?
As I write this final blog post for 2024, the word I’m offering myself today is gratitude. Thank you for reading my words and for your encouragement, your comments, or your quiet presence here.
I am grateful that your life is connected to mine.
